Hi, Cameron and Tanya Outridge here.

Welcome to our blog. After twelve months of working in the online direct sales industry, we have taken a step that we believe is unprecedented in the world of online direct sales.

We have created a website which reveals the TRUTH about our industry, warts and all, from a top earner’s perspective. And here it is in a nutshell…

Ninety-nine percent of what your average network marketing company tells you is a load of rubbish! Nothing more, nothing less.

Want to know the biggest problem we face as internet marketers?

LIARS.

A competitive economy creates ruthless temptation to lie, exaggerate, distort, and mislead. Then the internet puts that temptation on steroids.

As marketers every time we look at the results of a split test we’re faced with a moral dilemma. Because the majority of the time, strengthening a claim beyond what can actually be delivered raises your click through and conversion. And sadly, outright lying probably raises it stratospherically.

So what’s an ethical marketer to do? Well, we’ve decided to go “against” the flow.

Therefore, the information you will read on this site may come as a huge revelation to you. If you have been involved in a multi-level or network marketing business before, there will probably be quite a few “aha moments”, as we shed some light on why so few people make any money (whatsoever) in this industry.

On the bright side, there are, of course, a lot of very honest and ethical people making good money. And there are a lot of professional and genuine people making a lot of money. If you are looking at direct sales, MLM or network marketing as a business model for the first time, congratulations. We hope to open your eyes to the type of company you want to look for. There are different structures, and choosing the wrong type will dramatically impact on your bottom line.

Our aim is to give you the most accurate and relevant information we can about this industry, so that you are positioned to make a truly informed decision about whether or not to make a commitment to starting your own business in this arena.

In short, we will bring you the “Home Truths” about our industry (information that even the most honest sponsor is unlikely to tell you) ;-)

But we are probably getting a little ahead of ourselves here.

After all …

Why should you listen to what we have to say? Are we telling the truth?

Let us share our story with you, and then make up your own mind.

In October 2008, we came across CarbonCopyPro on the Internet, and spent some time doing due diligence on the business opportunity and the product.

Almost immediately we could see the power of the education and marketing system that had been put together.

We knew enough about direct response marketing to see that it was a million miles ahead of anything else out there.

So in early November 2008, we joined, and immersed ourselves in setting up our first online business and learning a dynamic new skill set.

By January 2009, we were ready to launch our first marketing campaign. And we were staggered by what happened next…

By the time we had attended our first company event in March 2009, we had been acknowledged as among the top earners in our partner company, and won a Master Marketing Award from Carbon Copy Pro.

As you can imagine, we were elated. And this elation continued, until we started to notice something that we were far less comfortable about. We could see that despite sponsoring and plugging new people into the best education and marketing platform we had ever seen, few of them were achieving the results they were looking for.

The reasons for this are many and varied.

But, to start at the very beginning, the number one reason why so few people get up and running in their fledgling businesses, as we see it, starts with the marketing of the ‘business opportunity’ in the first instance.

Now, we don’t want to suggest that the marketing across the board in the industry is deliberately dishonest, but it most definitely is misleading.

The marketing (including the first campaigns we ourselves ran), led people to believe that marketing a business online is simply a matter of opting into and following a proven system.

Having done this very thing ourselves, we know that the system does indeed work. But there is a lot more to this picture.

Tanya and Cameron Outridge

Nowadays we work from home. This was taken in July 2009 when we were CCPro's Consultants of the Month.

We found that there were some definite “gaps” (for want of a better word), in people’s understanding before they got started. We could see that some people came into the industry with zero experience and understanding of exactly what this (or any) business involves. And this fundamental lack of understanding of the bigger picture was tripping them over, before they could even get set up.

In order for you to understand why you can trust us to guide you through the process of establishing yourself in a business, we need to take you back a little further…

We have been self employed since 1996. Cameron has a degree in Journalism, and I have a degree in Behavioral Science. We met at University, and when we graduated, we went out into the world, working in our respective professions for six years. I guess it is fair to say that neither of us enjoyed life in our J.O.B. so we started to think about going into business for ourselves.

A year after our first child was born, we did something that seemed a little insane at the time, and mortgaged our house to buy a small community newspaper in a little country town called Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Queensland, Australia.

It was crazy because we had no previous experience of running a business, and we paid twice as much for the paper as it was worth (possibly not the most savvy decision we ever made – but you live and learn).

We had a dream that we wanted to follow, and we saw this as the way to get there. We wanted to be self employed.

We wanted to determine our own future, and we saw the newspaper as a way of helping other entrepreneurs and small business people to grow their own businesses, through intelligent, strategic newspaper advertising.

To say it was a struggle is a major understatement. The hours were long and grueling. We had to deal with weekly deadlines, staff and office politics and the never ending parade of production and technical dramas.

But we were determined to make it work, so we dug in and worked our business hard. We expanded our circulation from 6,500 to 14,500. We changed the format of our paper from A4 to tabloid, and we introduced color, a gloss real estate section and commercial business features.

We knew that in order to keep competition at bay, we had to constantly look for and master strategies to stay ahead of the curve.

To that end, we bought every business and mindset book on the market (or so it seemed at the time – we listened to Jim Rohn when you could still buy his material on cassettes).

We attended Sales and Marketing conferences. We invested hour after hour, and tens of thousands of dollars in business and copy writing courses.

We learn t the art of direct response marketing, compelling copy writing and “Advertorial” style marketing.

As we mastered and applied these skills, our turnover dramatically increased past the seven figure mark, and we caught the attention of a large media company, APN Australian Publishing.

At the end of 2006, they made us an offer we couldn’t refuse, and we sold our business.

For the first eighteen months, we managed our business on behalf of APN, but were quickly reminded why we sought to be self-employed in the first place (can you spell infuriating?).

We were also exhausted from ten years of relentless, hard grind. We knew we wanted to be self employed, but we did not want all of the hassles and dramas that typically come with a brick and mortar business.

In the middle of 2008, we thought we would have a stab at network marketing. It ticked all the boxes perfectly. Work at home, no staff, no commute, choose our own hours.

It sounded almost too good to be true. And naturally, it was.

The product was excellent, but the marketing training was woeful, to say the least. We were taught unprofessional “old school” techniques like approaching our circle of influence, handing out dodgy fliers, and generally ear bashing anyone unfortunate enough to make eye contact with us.

We thought we would be really clever, and write business features for local papers to promote the products.

After all, that was what we knew best. And although we were able to advertise and sell the products this way, it was expensive, and not a duplicatable method for anyone we brought into our team.

That was the primary reason why we never sponsored a single person into that business … http://mlmhometruths.com.au/what-about-bronwyn/.

We knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that they would not make any money, just like we weren’t. And we knew it wasn’t us. We had been extremely successful in business before.

So we moved our search online. We could see that increasingly, people are becoming connected around the world, and e-commerce is growing by the second.

As Bill Gates has said “If you are in business and you are not online, you are not in business”.

We knew there was a lot of money to be made online, and we were keen to find out how to educate and position ourselves best to do this.

And so we pick up where we left off earlier. We have built a large international team, and we are committed to guiding them and all newcomers through the process of learning this industry.

We decided to set up this blog as a resource to pull together the best information we have learned about our industry for use by those who are looking at this industry as a way to supplement, or replace an income. It is designed to give newcomers an overview, as well as very specific information on everything from business and marketing models and strategies, to personal mindset, to the psychology of buying and selling and finally, to professional outsourcing solutions.

We have compiled, and will continue to add to the content, with our own favorite and most valuable resources. We would love to make this site an interactive one, so we invite your comments and feedback, as well as any questions you would like to see us address. You can post your comments or questions at the end of each article in the comment boxes provided.

Our goal is to guide you through the mountain of information available to everyone looking for business opportunities online, and allow you to perform a thorough due diligence.

This will save you from making devastating mistakes that will drain you of energy, time and money.

The WWW is the most dynamic and rapidly expanding business environment in history, and in order to stay ahead of the pack, it is critical that you stay connected, and on a steep learning curve. Know that if you opt in to an online business, you are also choosing a path of continuous learning, because the competition is vast and fierce. Committing to this process will not only place you in a relatively small group of elite online business people, it will also potentially make you a lot of money. And that, after all, is why we are in business;-)

Respectfully,
